Public lecture series at Osnabrück University
This seminar series will cover a broad range of key issues related to contemporary Turkey and guest lecturers are experts in areas which are crucial to an understanding of the features of Turkey’s current transformation. These areas include the rise in authoritarianism and one-man regime, the replacement of secularism by religious institutionalisation and content, the refugee issue, urban transformation, to name a few. Each lecturer, including the organiser of the series, Dr. Bediz Yılmaz, is a scholar who has been dismissed from her/his position at a university in Turkey following the purge of Academics for Peace, a group of scholars who signed a petition that demanded the government to bring the violence towards Kurdish cities to an end.
Programme of the lecture series
This series is realised with the financial support of Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and Osnabrücker Friedensgespräche. The presentations will be video-recorded, presented at UOS website as an online-resource as well as at the website of Off-University (Organisation für den Frieden).
The course is planned as a course for BA and also interested MA students in the social sciences; but lectures are also open to the interested public. Particularly refugee students and scholars from different countries are welcome in order to open discussions about the academia, in the country of origin as well as in Germany.
Seminars takes place place in Osnabrück each Monday between 14-16 at room 41/112 (Altes Kreishaus, Neuer Graben 40) until the 2nd of July, 2018.
